Special session From the lab to the room
Design learning requires a mix of theory (lessons) and practice (hands-on labs), which can be integrated into "lab in the room" sessions. Papers can describe teaching experiences which merge
theory and design activities, with focus on course contents, organization, and support services.
This special session is organized by Dante Del Corso, Politecnico di Torino, Italy
Special session Microelectronics education in emerging countries
The session aims to present the heritage, state of the art, and development strategies of microelectronics education in emerging countries ranging from former Soviet Union territory, Asia, South America, and Africa. Most of new semiconductor foundries are being constructed in Asia and the contribution of China and India to global economy is well known.
This special session is organized by Srinivas Mandalika, BITS Pilani, India and Andrzej Rucinski, University of New Hampshire, USA
Special session Cultivating non-technical skills in student projects
The most successful engineers have always been effective communicators and leaders, able to address economic, social, environmental, and political needs while accomplishing a technical goal. In recognition of this, engineering programs are increasingly seeking to develop this full spectrum of abilities in students. One of the most popular approaches is to incorporate non-technical requirements into student design and research projects, but this can take many forms. For this session, authors will explain and give evidence of a variety of ways that non-technical skills have been cultivated in the setting of student project work.
This special session is organized by Mark C. Johnson, Purdue University, USA
